Week Beginning 27th April 2020
Week 4 of the school closure.
First of all, Ramadan Mubarak, Happy Ramadan, to all of our Muslim families. We wish you a very relaxed Ramadan and hope that the current restrictions will at least help in organising your days.
Can I also say well done to everyone who is following the government's rules at the moment? Together we can get through this and see each other soon.
I hope you are all finding the new Home Learning packs useful and you have managed to open the zip files. Please let us know if they are causing any problems.
I am at home this week, but still finding plenty to keep me busy. The staff team in school, alongside Mrs Clougher and Mrs West is
- Nursery and Reception – Miss Williams, Mrs Wilson and Mrs McDonald
- Year 1 and Year 2 – Miss Cubbin, and Mrs Fletcher
- Year 3 and Year 4 – Mrs Shiel and Mrs Addison
- Year 5 and Year 6 – Mr Hood and Mrs Thompson
Mrs Clougher and I had a great response to the poetry challenge. Thanks to everyone who sent them in. Mrs Clougher has put together her favourite three and I have made a book! I just couldn’t decide, so you will find lots of them to read. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did and feel free to share them.
This week has been National Gardening Week. Who knew? Well Mr Hood knew. The week's learning has been linked to this. The younger children have been creating a wormery; there is a photo of the worm hunt below. If I was one of the worms, I think I would be terrified! The older children have also been busy doing some gardening linked to science. It's a great way to get the garden tidied up!
The older children have also written an article to go in The Chronicle on their Schools Page sometime in the near future all about the week. I am not going to spoil the excitement by sharing it; you will have to wait until it is published!
If you are looking for something very different and incredibly useful to learn during this time, what about CPR? Caroline, one of Ravenswood’s mums and a qualified paramedic, also runs “Little Rescuers”, a company that teaches first aid to primary aged children. She has worked with some of Year 6 this year and has produced a special video just for us. If you look under the “Parents” tab and click on “COVID19 Home Learning”, the video is at the very top. Thanks, Caroline!
I would like to take this opportunity to say well done to everyone who is fund raising at the moment, either for the NHS or for some of the smaller charities out there, who are really struggling. I know there is lots going on and I also know that your efforts are very much appreciated.
If you are receiving the new Free School Meal vouchers, then please download your voucher code when you receive the email. The codes are only valid for 4 weeks from the date of issue and so you will miss out if you don’t redeem them quickly. Mrs Clougher has emailed all parents this week that haven't accessed any of their vouchers. If you haven't received an email for vouchers and you think you should have, please email Mrs Clougher or Mrs West and they will get back to you. It's always a good idea to check your spam folder too.
