Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 24th June 2019

As predicted, this has been a very busy and very successful sporting week.

Everything got started on Tuesday when, despite some pretty horrible weather, we officially opened the new pitch. Huge thanks to Kerry-Anne Hastings (Scottish international hockey player), Craig Heap (Gold medal commonwealth gymnast) and Novos Netball Club who helped us celebrate and particular thanks to the children who joined us, who were a credit to the school. The Chronicle covered the event, so why not have a look at the article, photos and video on their website at https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/meet-heaton-primary-school-kids-16487433

On Wednesday, the Newcastle Schools 500 Games got underway. Ravenswood were represented in seventeen different events across the three days of competition, finishing with -

  • 5 Team Gold medals
  • 2 Team Silver medals
  • 3 Team Bronze medals
  • 7 teams placing outside the top three.

We also won a Gold and a Bronze individual medal in the cross country. This is an amazing set of results. Well done to everyone that represented school.

On Thursday, three of our teams were at the Tyne Wear Games summer finals day. The Year 3/4 Tennis Team came fifth out of nine teams, the Year 5/6 Quadkids (Athletics) Team won Team Bronze medals and the Year 3/4 Gymnastics Team won Team Silver medals. These are outstanding results as the Tyne Wear finals bring together the best two schools in each event from the five education areas – Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland. Just to get there is a great achievement. Well done again to all of our sporting stars.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the “In the Loop” meeting. I hope everyone received the minutes of the meeting, along with this year’s parent questionnaire. I already have quite a few replies in my office, so please take a moment to complete yours and send it in. It would be very much appreciated.

Our mini-singers were out on Friday afternoon at Sage Gateshead taking part in The Big Sing. They were brilliant and had a fantastic time. I’m sure Miss Williams and Mrs Murphy will be putting some more details on the website next week.

Well the flags are up and the welcome party are ready for our Chinese visitors from Wuhan Optical Valley (Guanggu) Primary Schools numbers 1 and 2. They arrive on Monday and are with us in school on Tuesday before going to the beach on Wednesday with some of our children and some children from West Jesmond. It should be a lovely few days and I will let you know how it all goes in next week’s blog.
