Week beginning 2nd December 2019
It has been a very busy week of preparations this week. Next week is probably the busiest of the year with all of the Christmas productions happening. There will be nine performances across week and so the halls have been full of singing children and frazzled teachers.
Here is the format for the week.

- Friday 2:45pm Year 6 music performance for Year 6 parents
We got off to a great start on Tuesday with the first show of the season from Nursery, which was lovely. Thanks to everyone who came along and for your kind donations at the end of the show. At the end of each of our school based shows, we will be collecting for our chosen charity this year, which is the Rainbow Trust. We will also be collecting presents for Children North East at the Christmas Celebration at St Gabriel’s. This is a local charity and distributes these gifts to families who are struggling to provide anything for their children at this time of year. We have been working with this charity for the last six years and they are always extremely grateful for any donations.
The Friends of Ravenswood have also been hard at work preparing for Friday’s Christmas Fair. Thanks to everyone who came along and especially to everyone who helped out either on stalls on the evening or by sending in donations. It seems to have gone very well, but we would love to have your feedback about how you found it compared to the traditional Saturday lunchtime slot. I would also like to give a special shout out to Mr Nolan and the cleaning team who have to put in additional hours following any school fair in order to get the school looking as tidy as ever. Many thanks to them all.
The Year 6 basketball team were at JPA this week playing in the Ouseburn Learning Trust competition. The team did brilliantly, finishing in tied first place with Benton Park. Congratulations to them all and to Coach Miller!
Thanks should also be sent to Miss Simpson and Miss McClurg, our two student teachers from Newcastle University. They finished their first teaching practice on Friday in Classes 9 and 21 and the children have loved having them as teachers. We wish them both well for the future.
It was great to see Ms Semple in school on Friday with her little boy. Laura started working with Ravenswood two years ago, offering keyboard lessons to pupils in Years 3 to 6. She has been off on maternity leave, but is back with us from January. I have some sign up letters from her which I will be sending out next week. If you would like your child to have keyboard lessons, please let me or the office know.
Well that’s it for this week’s blog. I look forward to seeing lots of you next week at the various shows.
