Week beginning 2nd May 2022
I hope everyone had a lovely day off on Monday, which saw May Day and Eid fall on the same day. It was great to see everyone back in on Tuesday and ready for a busy four-day week.
Our fantastic Year 6 have been particularly focussed this week with their final preparations before SATs week. Next week they will sit the national tests each morning until Thursday, when it will all be over. I wish them well for the week and I know that they are all looking forward to slightly less maths and grammar in the weeks to come!
On Tuesday, our Boccia teams went to the Newcastle competition and played really well. Boccia is a game like bowls which can be adapted for people with all different abilities and is one of the Paralympic sports. The city competition is open to all pupils of all abilities and is one of the friendliest competitions available to us. One of the teams managed to win four of their five games, but the best thing was the attitude and sporting behaviour of the whole team. Well done to all of them.
On Thursday after school, our girls’ football team went to the city competition and came third out of sixteen teams. They played some great football and won all of the matches in their mini league. They then won their quarter final, but sadly lost the semi-final on penalties, after a 0-0 score line. This left them third in the competition with no goals conceded in normal time of any match. A fantastic result. We are hoping to have some games against the other Ouseburn Learning Trust schools in the near future.
As part of their Victorians topic, Year 1 spent a day in a Victorian classroom on Thursday. The teachers were very strict and the “dunce’s hat” was made good use of! They will have another insight into life as a Victorian school child when they visit the schoolhouse at Beamish next week.
This week we welcomed Mr Taylor and Mr Con from Newcastle University for their final teaching practice. Mr Taylor will be teaching in Class 4 (with Miss Taylor!!) and Mr Conn will be teaching in Class 13.
