Week beginning 2nd September 2019
Welcome back to a new school year at Ravenswood. I hope everyone had a great summer and managed to get some rest and relaxation with the family. Speaking to lots of people on the yard, it was lovely to hear that the children were looking forward to getting back to school. It has been a very calm beginning to the new term, in slight contrast to the start of term in parliament! In amongst all of the incredible announcements this week, it was lovely to hear about extra funding for schools, but I think we will wait until this is a reality before getting too excited.
While I can still remember the summer holiday, can I point out that the rumour is true and we will be having a seven week summer break next year, so get booking those early deals before the tour operators realise and put up their prices. The holiday will be from Friday 17th July until Tuesday 8th September.
Thanks to everyone who returned their parent questionnaires last term. I spent some time in the break looking through them all and one of the key messages to us was to give more notice of events. I have spoken to staff about this and we will try very hard to do a better job this year. Key events this term include
- Week beginning 16th September - Year 6 trip to Borrowdale
- Wednesday 2nd October – Individual photographs
- Tuesday 8th October at 2:45pm – Year 5/6 Book Look
- Wednesday 9th October at 2:45pm – Year 1/2 Book Look
- Thursday 10th October at 2:45pm – Year 3/4 Book Look
- Week beginning 14th October – Parent consultations
- Friday 25th October – Break up for half term
We are moving our staff meeting from Monday to Wednesday after school, starting in Week 4 of this term and this may affect the start of some clubs. I will be telling you all about clubs in next week’s Blog, but any that we would normally start on Wednesday after school will have to move day and therefore may be slightly delayed. Drama Club was the only club that got started this week, as the children are working towards their performance of Romeo and Juliet which takes place at Northern Stage on 6th November.
An exciting new development for the school is that we will be welcoming one of Newcastle’s Chinese Schools and a French School to use our facilities on a Saturday. It will be lovely to have them at Ravenswood and I will tell you more about them once they have settled in.
I hope some of you found Elwood, our St Oswald’s Elmer this summer. If you haven’t seen him, he is at the main entrance to the City Library with a small heard. You can download an app from St Oswald’s website which will help you to spot all of the Elmers across the region. We look forward to welcoming Elwood back to school at the end of summer.
Finally, it is Great North Run weekend. Thanks to everyone who turned out for the Ravenswood Run on Friday and good luck to our Junior and Mini Runners on Saturday and all of our friends and families who are doing the run on Sunday. Enjoy!!
