Ravenswood Primary School

Ravenswood Primary School

Week beginning 6th January 2020

Happy New Year to you all. Another year and the start of another decade. I hope the new year brings health and happiness to all. We certainly have an exciting 2020 planned for Ravenswood.

It has been a busy week in classrooms as our new topics get started and we all settle in to the new term. Here is an overview of the topics across the school -

  • Reception are looking at People who Help us
  • Year 1 are doing traditional tales in a topic called Once upon a Time
  • Year 2 start their China topic, which will last all term
  • Year 3 are studying The Romans
  • Year 4 are doing everything to do with France
  • Year 5 will cover a topic on Ancient Baghdad
  • Year 6 will be studying Ancient Greece

As you know, teachers have planned these topics to try to pull together as many of the subjects as possible under one title. As I’m sure you can imagine, not everything fits, so if you want to see how everything comes together have a look under the “Our School” tab in The Ravenswood Curriculum.

We are working hard in staff meetings this year to review our curriculum and ensure that it is fit for purpose, which is firstly to meet the needs of our pupils and secondly to meet the needs of the government, through the National Curriculum and Ofsted. It is something that we are very proud of and hope that your child enjoys all of the exciting learning experiences which are on offer to them.

On Wednesday I held our final look around for Reception places for 2020-21. Applications for places need to be sent to the City Council by Wednesday 15th January. These can be done online or by paper copy. If you know anyone who is looking for a place, please remind them of this date, as no application means that the child will be allocated any school in Newcastle with spare places.

We are also taking applications for Nursery places for 2020-21. We still have plenty of space in Nursery for next year, so again, please spread the word to any families who might be interested. Applications for these places are made directly to the school office. We offer places just before Easter, so there is still time.

Can I remind everyone that Ravenswood is a nut-free school? We have pupils on both sides of school now with severe nut allergies and so don’t want them to come to any harm through accidental exposure to nuts. We appreciate your support in this.
