Week beginning 6th June 2022
Welcome back after the half term break and the Jubilee weekend. I hope everyone had a lovely time.
This half term is going to fly by, as the diary is cram-packed with events already.
It has been quite an athletic first week back. Our Year 6 athletics team were out at a city event on Tuesday, where they came third.
The team that represented school in the Year 5/6 Quadkids competition at the end of last half term came second in their event and have qualified for the city finals. Our younger Year 3/4 Quadkids Team will now have their event on our field next week due to the heavy rain on Wednesday causing a postponement. Our Young Sports Leaders were out on Thursday morning planning the Activ5 week, which will take place in two weeks’ time and all of our classes are doing athletics in Games lessons at the moment, preparing for our school Sports Day on Monday 18th July.
The Drama Club went to the People’s Theatre on Wednesday morning to see the stage that they will perform on and take part in a lovely workshop. They are very excited and have done a great job learning their lines. There is some work still to do, but we are looking forward to a fantastic performance of Twelfth Night on 23rd June. This is part of the Ouseburn Learning Trust Shakespeare Festival. We will be sharing the evening with Benton Park and dance pupils from Jesmond Park Academy.
On Friday we had a big rehearsal for our Music evening next Tuesday. This is a celebration of all things musical with performances from the two school choirs, the Trumpet Club, some of our talented soloists and the school band. Tickets are sold out for the event, but I will get some photos to share in next week’s blog.
Transition meetings are now getting organised. We have our new Nursery families visiting us on Monday next week and we then welcome next year’s Reception families two weeks later. Our Year 6 pupils have all now chosen their secondary school and we are starting to pass up their information.
Thanks for all of the donations for the Summer Fair that were sent in on Friday’s non-uniform day. Please feel free to send in any more donations. The Friends of Ravenswood are particularly keen on books, games, toys or raffle prizes. We have two great Friday events to look forward to in the next few weeks. The fair, which will be after school on Friday 1st July and The Great Get Together, which takes place the week before on Friday 24th June from 1:30 – 3pm.
