Week beginning 7th December 2020
Christmas has definitely arrived at Ravenswood this week. We had a very special visitor on Tuesday, as you can see.
Santa visited all the children in nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Some children visited him in our special Santa's Grotto in the school garden and he popped his head round the door of each Year 1 and Year 2 classroom. Santa told the children that he wouldn't be able to come down their chimneys this year due to the coronavirus but don't worry because his elves have come up with a marvellous plan! They have invented a special machine that goes down the chimney to deliver presents to all the girls and boys and afterwards it sucks up all the mince pies, biscuits and carrots and sends them to Santa and his reindeer up on the roof. It’s amazing what modern technology can do!
Classes across the school have been involved in creating Christingles this week. All of the resources for these, along with a video lesson, were provided by Life Vineyard Church and so our great thanks go to them. They are holding a Family Christingle Service online on Sunday 13th December, which you are all welcome to join. Simply tune in to their YouTube channel at 10:30am. Year 2 took their Christingles to St Gabriel’s to share them with Father Jonathan and to talk about their meaning. You can find out more on the Year 2 page very soon.
We have also welcomed one of the shepherds from St Gabriel’s Advent Nativity trail to the front garden. The characters from the nativity story are going to be all around Heaton and you can follow the trail by clicking on the QR code and listening to the story. Our QR code is with the other two shepherds on the other side of the road. The trail starts on Saturday 12th December and you can get a copy of it from St Gabriel’s or from school on Monday.
The halls have been full of Christmas singing, in bubbles and socially distanced, of course! These recordings will be popping up on the Ravenswood YouTube channel and the website next week and we hope that you will enjoy them and accept them as a COVID replacement for the usual Christmas shows.
Next week is party week. Your child will have told you when their party is. We are having bubble parties this year instead of in whole year groups. Please remember to send a little snack for your child to have in the afternoon, as we can’t share food this year. Thankfully, we are still able to have Christmas Dinner on Wednesday. If you want your child to have this, then please let us know on Monday. They can stay for this meal and be packed lunch for the rest of the week, if they wish to. To celebrate we will be having a jumper day on Wednesday, so no school uniform that day. The jumper can be as Christmassy as you wish, but please don’t go out and buy one especially for this.
And to finish, the final COVID reminder of 2020. None of us want to be self-isolating during the two week holiday. Please follow the tier three rules and keep everyone safe, so we can all enjoy the Christmas break.
